The Communication Research Centre (CRC) has transferred its ultra high frequency satellite communications (UHF SATCOM) technology to Spectrum Signal Processing by Vecima for use in the latter's rugged wireless modems for military use. The licensing agreement allows Burnaby BC-based Spectrum to implement CRC's new waveform on its SDR-4000 modem, providing beyond-line-of-sight tactical data and voice communications to military clients in an integrated, off-the-shelf package, reducing time-to-deployment and development costs. Spectrum, a supplier of software defined radio platforms for defence electronics applications, was recently purchased for $18.3 million by Vecima Networks Inc, Victoria BC.
