CQDM and Brain Canada are partnering to invest $3 million in two research projects under their Focus on Brain strategic initiative. The first of the multi-disciplinary, multi-institutional projects— a patient-derived stem cell neuronal platform for Parkinson’s disease — involves four academic institutions and is led by Dr Edward Fon at the Montreal Neurological Institute. The second project — a platform to harness potential of RNA-binding proteins and is led by Dr Jean-Martin Beaulieu of U of T — brings together researchers from McGill Univ, Univ of Toronto and Vancouver-based ImStar Therapeutics. Brain Canada funding for the projects comes through its Canada Brain Research Fund — a partnership with Health Canada.
