Kingston ON-based Canadian Microelectronics Corp (CMC) has purchased specialized intellectual property (IP) distribution software from Synchronicity Inc, Marlboro MA, as part of the rollout of its System-On-A-Chip (SOC)Research Network. Synchronicity’s IP Gear Publisher Suite will be used by university researchers, students and industry collaborators to distribute and support the movement of design layout files from member institutions to semiconductor fabrication facilities used by CMC to produce prototypes. It will also be used to enable collaborative design between multiple sites. The SOC Research Network includes 32 universities from coast to coast. The news comes on the heels of CMC’s awarding of a $9.3-million grant from the Canada Foundation for Innovation to establish a National Microelectronics and Photonics Testing Collaboratory. The $23-million project will ultimately include 22 universities whose researchers will use the Internet to test and validate microchip designs….
