Researchers will be able to access the Canadian Light Source (CLS) synchrotron remotely from their desktops through a new link to CA*net 4, CANARIE Inc's broadband research network. The technology was developed by the Alberta Synchrotron Institute, facilitated by the use of lightpaths provided by CANARIE, Netera Alliance, SRNet and BigBangwidth. The new link will initially benefit protein crystallographers to access the CLS, eliminating travel time and allowing for faster turnaround time on experiments. Other researchers will also be able to use the CLS remotely once a follow up project is competed by the end of this year. It will allow connection to the new Vespers beamline for materials science and is being funded by CANARIE, IBM and BigBangwidth under CANARIE's Intelligent Infrastructure Program...
