China's latest five-year plan emphasizing scientific innovation and sustainable development offers "huge potentials for the win-win cooperation between China and Canada", says China's ambassador to Canada, Zhang Junsai. Speaking before the Ottawa branch of the Hong Kong-Canada Business Association, Junsai said the 12 Five-Year Plan aims to close the gaps China now experiences with developed countries in the areas of value-add and S&T's contribution to the economy. He singled out Canadian expertise in managing high-tech manufacturing, new materials, green energy technology, biomedicine, pharmaceuticals and financial services as areas in which Canada can increase collaboration and trade with China.
