CFI selects Carleton Univ president Roseann O’Reilly Runte as its new president and CEO

The Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI) has once again selected a prominent academic as its new president and CEO. Dr Roseann O’Reilly Runte, president and vice-chancellor of Carleton Univ since 2008, will take up the reins of the CFI July 31^st replacing outgoing president and CEO, Dr Gilles Patry. Runte was born and educated in the US and holds dual Canadian-American citizenship. After graduating with a BA in French from the State Univ of New York and obtaining an MA and PhD from the Univ of Kansas, she was a professor and author of works in French, comparative literature, economics and cultural development prior to moving into academic management. Runte has served as president of l’Université Sainte-Anne (Digby County NS), principal of Glendon College (a campus of York Univ), president of Victoria University (affiliated with the Univ of Toronto) and president of Old Dominion University (Norfolk Virginia). While at Carleton, she was instrumental in expanding science and engineering enrolment by 70% and supported infrastructure investments in areas such as energy, aerospace, health sciences and physics.
