The Canada Foundations for Innovation (CFI) has announced the short list of projects under its two new international funds. A slate of 72 project outlines worth more than $1 billion has been reduced to 18, and their university backers will be asked to submit full proposals. Five projects will compete for $100 million under the International Joint Ventures Fund (IJVF), while 13 projects will vie for an equal amount under the International Access Fund (IAF). Decisions on several projects are expected as early as next May with reviews of each proposals focusing on quality of research and need for infrastructure, contribution to strengthening the capacity for innovation, potential benefits of the research and the international collaboration to Canada.
