CCA to examine energy use and climate change

The Council of Canadian Academies (CCA) has announced a new expert panel assessment of Energy Use and Climate Change: A Synthesis of the Latest Evidence. The work is sponsored by Magna International Inc, Aurora ON, the first time a CCA expert panel has been commissioned by a corporation. The panel, whose members are currently being recruited, will examine current and future global energy supply and demand (sources and technologies, characteristics, portability and suitability for different applications and end uses), current and projected greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and the latest evidence on the impact of climate change in North America, as well as policy options and tools available to limit or mitigate GHG emissions and reduce energy use. A final report is anticipated in the latter half of 2015. The assessment is the first handed to the CCA in several months. The 2014 call for proposals from the federal government was cancelled and the CCA's 10-year, $30-million funding contribution from Industry Canada expires March 31/15….
