Calgary aims to be top intelligent community

Calgary has been selected as one of the world’s top seven intelligent communities and now it’s gunning for number one. The city is part of a competition for the title of the World’s Top Intelligent Community, held by the Intelligent Community Forum, a special interest group within the World Teleport Association. A teleport is an intermodal broadband hub or gateway connecting satellite with fiber optic and microwave circuits. Calgary and its competitors will be judged according to five criteria: deployment of broadband communications throughout society, government and private sector programs designed to overcome the “digital divide”, education, training and workforce development, access to risk capital and marketing of community broadband, labour and other assets. Also competing are Bangalore, India, the Florida High Tech Corridor, Lagrange GA, Seoul, and Sunderland UK. The Calgary bid has been prepared by Calgary Technologies Inc, a non-profit economic development agency….
