Auditor General slams weak oversight of foundations

The Auditor General of Canada (AG) wants auditing powers over private foundations and “other delegated arrangements”, many of which have been established to support research. In its latest report, it charges that funds and foundations are “not answerable to Parliament” and “have been placed beyond the reach of effective ministerial oversight and parliamentary scrutiny”. It recommends that the government should appoint the AG as the external auditor of foundations. Watch
