The Alberta government has announced results of the first competition under its new $33-million Innovation Program, awarding $5.4 million to 12 projects. The largest award is $1.5 million towards a $10.5-million By-Product Hydrogen Demonstration Project led by the Alberta Energy Research Institute. Other major awards include: $800,000 towards a $2.7-million Integrated Bioenergy and Bio-based Fertilizer System by the Alberta Research Council; $675,000 for Phase II of the Microsystems Technology Research Institute; and, $625,000 for a $4.7-million Residential Solar District Heating Demonstration Project by Energy Solutions Alberta, a division of Climate Change Central.
