AHFMR funds inter-disciplinary research teams

The Alberta Heritage Foundation for Medical Research (AHFMR) has unveiled its new Interdisciplinary Team Grants program with the awarding of $20 million over five years to four research teams. Designed to build existing provincial strengths into positions of international stature, the program is providing the teams with $1 million annually for five years. The inaugural awards were made to the Preterm and Healthy Outcomes team — Dr David Olson (Univ of Alberta) and Dr Suzanne Tough (Univ of Calgary); the Impact of Maternal Nutrient Status During Pregnancy on Maternal Health and Child Development team — Dr Bonnie Kaplan (Univ of Calgary), Dr Catherine Field (Univ of Alberta), Dr Deborah Dewey (Univ of Calgary); Improving Health Care Access and Sustainability with Microfluidic Platforms — Dr Linda Pilarski (Univ of Alberta); and, Interdisciplinary Team in Vaccine Design and Implementation — Dr Anthony Schryvers (Univ of Calgary), Dr Lorne Babiuk (Univ of Alberta) and Dr James Kellner (Univ of Calgary)….
