VeriFone founder donates $2 million to York Univ

York Univ alumnus Douglas Bergeron and his wife Sandra have donated $2 million to his alma mater to establish the Bergeron Entrepreneurs in Science & Technology (BEST) program. The program will be used to support entrepreneurial programs in S&T, engineering and mathematics, and teach business experience to aspiring student-entrepreneurs. A veteran technology executive, Bergeron founded VeriFone, a point-of-sale electronic payment system based in San Diego CA. Although the firm has been sold twice (to Hewlett Packard in 1997 and Gores Technology Group in 2001,) he remains its president and CEO….
