UK moves to improve access to research

The UK's Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC) has instituted new archiving requirements obliging researchers that it funds to submit their published articles to an online repository. The move by the BBSRC follows a position statement issued by Research Councils UK (RCUK), the umbrella body for the UK's seven research councils. RCUK issued the statement to improve the access to publicly funded research while respecting copyright and licensing policies as well as the differences among disciplines. Each council has been given latitude on how and when to implement the new policy....
