The Prime Minister has announced $230 million in matched funding for Montreal’s AI-Powered Supply Chains Supercluster (SCALE.AI), which is expected to create 16,000 jobs and add more than $16 billion to the economy in the coming decade. The government of Quebec will also invest $60 million in the supercluster, one of the five consortiums that form the Innovation Superclusters Initiative, a centrepiece of the federal Innovation and Skills Plan. SCALE.AI aims to facilitate the creation of intelligent supply chains, through coordination between the retail, manufacturing, transportation, infrastructure, and information and communications technology sectors. Trudeau made the announcement at the G7 Multistakeholder Conference on Artificial Intelligence in Montreal, Quebec, where he also discussed a mandate for the International Panel on Artificial Intelligence being created by Canada and France, which seeks to guide “the responsible adoption of AI that is human-centric and grounded in human rights, inclusion, diversity, innovation and economic growth.”
