TRIUMF, German institutions sign quantum computing tie-up

TRIUMF, Canada’s particle accelerator centre, leads a group of Canadian organizations that have signed a memorandum of understanding with German institutions to be able to collaborate on quantum computing and machine learning R&D and training. TRIUMF is joined by TRIUMF Innovations, its commercialization arm, and Canadian partners D-Wave Systems Inc. and 1QBit in a tie-up with Germany’s Helmholtz Association centres DESY and Forschungszentrum Jülich. The agreement calls for jointly establishing networks in quantum computing and machine learning to be able to collaborate on projects that are mutually of interest. The networks involve four joint working groups based on the four pillars of data science: quantum computing, large-scale computing, machine learning and big data analytics. The agreement also involves sharing of resources and expertise, and training the next generation of scientists and other partners that can contribute to the collaboration.
