Spin-off targets new market for stem cells

A new Montreal biotech company has been launched to commercialize a technology that would overcome the shortage of bone marrow donors for patients with acute myeloid leukemia. Launched by the Institute for Research in Immunology and Cancer - Commercialization of Research and the Centre for Commercialization of Regenerative Medicine, ExCellThera is based on a proprietary technique related to the expansion of stem cells developed by Dr Guy Sauvageau at the Univ of Montreal and Dr Peter Zandstra at the Univ of Toronto. A Phase I and II clinical trial is slated for this year at the Maisonneuve-Rosement Hospital in Montreal....
