NRC and Hemptown to create new enzyme technology

Vancouver’s Hemptown Clothing Inc has entered into an R&D collaboration with the National Research Council’s Institute for Biological Sciences to develop a patentable enzyme technology process for hemp production The objective of the collaboration is to develop a new fibre technology for introduction into the market within three years. Hemptown plans to use the technology and license it worldwide. Hemp uses far less water and does not use the vast array of pesticides required for cotton production. In addition to clothing, it has industrial applications in the automotive sector and as natural insulation for buildings....
