Mark Wolff has been appointed chief technology officer at CANARIE, the second high-profile appointment this month following the installation of Jim Ghadbane as president and CEO (R$, November 11/13). Wolff joined CANARIE three years ago as senior director technology innovation and led the implementation of the Digital Accelerator Innovation and Research (DAIR)?and the Research Middleware programs. As CTO, he is responsible for the ongoing evolution of the CANARIE network in conjunction with provincial networks as well as its network services. He will also participate in the development of the organization's next strategic plan (2015-20). Wolff has served in senior positions at Newbridge Networks, Alcatel and Meriton Networks. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce and BSc in electrical engineering from the Univ of Saskatchewan….

The Canadian Water Network has appointed Dr Simon Courtenay as scientific director of the Waterloo ON-based Network of Centres of Excellence, replacing Dr Kelly Munkittrick. Courtenay comes to CWN from the Department of Fisheries and Oceans, co-located at the Canadian Rivers Institute in the Univ of New Brunswick's biology department and the Gulf Fisheries Centre in Moncton. He holds a BSc and MSc in zoology from the Univ of Western Ontario (now Western Univ) and a PhD in zoology from the Univ of British Columbia....
