Mark Roman has been appointed president and CEO of CANARIE Inc effective April 25th, replacing Jim Roche who held the position on an interim basis since February/10 following the unexpected departure of Guy Bujold. Roman comes to CANARIE from the Univ of Victoria where he is chief information officer. While at UVic, he was responsible for leading the information technology strategy to support the NEPTUNE and VENUS underwater observatories and the transfer of experimental data to UVic from the Large Hadron Collider at CERN. Prior to that, Roman was executive director of enterprise systems at Carleton Univ and has worked at senior levels in several companies. He holds a BSc (computer science) from the Univ of Waterloo, an MBA from Queen's Univ and is a certified project management professional. CANARIE has also appointed Jim Ghadbane at its chief technology officer after holding the position on an interim basis since May/10. Ghadbane joined CANARIE after a long career in high-tech, including stints at Ceyba Corp, Alcatel Corp and Bridgewater Systems….
