EXFO purchases Toronto's EFOS

EXFO Electro Optical Engineering Inc, Quebec City, has purchased privately-held EFOS Inc, Toronto, in a cash and stock transaction worth US$122 million. The acquisition provides EXFO with technology required for the automated manufacture of optical components and will be combined with nano-positioning technology recently acquired from Burleigh Instruments. EFOS is a leader in precision, light-based spot curing technology, as well as curing process control. The technology is covered by a broad intellectual property portfolio including 12 patents and 16 patents pending. EXFO has enjoyed success developing fiber-optic test, measurement and monitoring instruments for the telecommunications industry. It recently announced a major expansion of its facilities for which it received a 10-year tax credit from the Quebec government ( R$, November 3/00)....
