Dr Monica Gattinger has been appointed director of the Univ of Ottawa's Institute for Science, Society and Policy (ISSP). Gattinger replaces inaugural director Dr Marc Saner who returned to his duties as a professor in the geography department after five years at ISSP. Gattinger will focus on strengthening the institute's research capacity and national and international networks and will oversee and expand its recently launched collaborative master's program that bridges the science and policy communities. She brings her expertise in interdisciplinary research and teaching in the areas of energy, culture, policy and governance. Gattinger holds a PhD in public policy from Carleton Univ. Prior to joining the U of O, she held positions at the Canada West Foundation, Angus Reid (now Ipsos-Reid) and TELUS….

The Association of Ontario Health Care Centres (AOHC) has appointed Dr Jennifer Rayner to develop and lead a research program aimed at improving the health care system's ability to serve vulnerable populations — a need cited in a recent report by Health Quality Ontario. The research program will investigate services and programs delivered by AOHC‘s 109 member centres and forge partnerships with academia and other partners to explore the health and health services for at-risk groups. Rayner holds a PhD in epidemiology and biostatistics from Western Univ and has experience working with administrative databases….
