Chris Hadfield has joined the faculty of the Univ of Waterloo, following his retirement from the Canadian Space Agency last July. Hadfield was appointed as a professor of aviation involving both teaching and advisory roles beginning Fall 2014. Prior to that, he will conclude his research into heart health in space in collaboration with Dr Richard Hudson. They will examine why some astronauts are prone to fainting spells upon return to earth by predicting how they recover from rapid changes in blood pressure. The research may also be valuable for the elderly who are predisposed to falling. Hadfield's roots at the university go back to 1982 when he did postgraduate research after earning an engineering degree from the Royal Military College of Canada.
