Centennial College opens applied research facility in Scarborough

Centennial College in Toronto has officially opened its off-campus Innovation Hub in a commercial office building in Scarborough. Located in a leased storefront within walking distance of the college’s Progress Campus, the 4,500 sq. ft. collaborative space is designed for students to work on industry-led projects in aerospace, health technologies and cybersecurity. Centennial students have been using the Hub since September to investigate electrically actuated aircraft landing gear with Safran Landing Systems. Kyle Schmidt, vice-president of product development and R&T Engineering at Safran Landing Systems Canada, said that working with Centennial provides a great opportunity to find future employees. The Innovation Hub grew out of the college’s Applied Research, Innovation and Entrepreneurship Services and features a prototyping lab with computer-aided design stations, as well as an isolated cybersecurity lab that enables testing in a secure environment.
