BC budget funds genome research

The British Columbia government has allocated $26 million to genome research in the province by requesting that two ministries re-allocate their spending before the end of the fiscal year. The provision for genome research funding was contained in the province’s February 18 Budget, which was overwhelmed by the federal Budget tabled the same day. The government is requesting that the Ministry of Health Services and Ministry of Advanced Education find $21 million and $5 million respectively from existing spending. The Budget also increased the maximum annual draw of provincial tax credit for labour-sponsored venture capital funds from $12 million to $16 million , introduced an equity tax credit for new media and a tax credit for digital animation.
